ABOUT

For more than 20 years, Big I Strategies founder Jon Lipshutz, has worked at the highest levels of local, state and federal politics. His extensive background and scope of work ranges from campaign consulting, government affairs and strategic communications, to issue advocacy, public relations and more.

Throughout his career, Jon has worked on more than 100 electoral campaigns — in 16 states — helping Democrats win tough elections in nearly every office on the ballot – from City Council to U.S. President.

With decades of deep experience of running and winning hard-fought races across the nation, Lipshutz’s career in electoral politics began in 2000. Back then, he worked on the Wisconsin Coordinated Campaign and was part of the triumphant team that helped Al Gore win the state.

After the Gore campaign, Jon served as the AFL-CIO Political Director in Wisconsin where he worked with organized labor, environmentalists, progressives, and other interest groups to come together and fight for common goals, both electorally, on issue advocacy and in advancing policy objectives legislatively. In this capacity, he was among the architects that helped form a working coalition table of Democratic aligned organizations in the state.

Later in 2008, Lipshutz served as the Western Field Desk for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), where he worked with state parties and congressional campaigns across the Western United States to execute modern and effective field campaigns. That cycle saw unprecedented gains for Democrats in Congress including six Red-to-Blue victories in the Western Region. Notably, the innovative field strategies utilized that cycle still serve as a basis for programs developed today.

Beyond his candidate specific electoral efforts, Jon has helped spearhead a number of issue advocacy campaigns, ballot measures and legislative objectives through his government affairs work. Landmark wins on issues spanning from protecting social security to fighting for fair wages and working conditions, raising the minimum wage, securing education funding for public schools, combatting climate change, investing in renewable energy and protecting the environment, reflect only a small sample of his issue advocacy and government affairs accomplishments.

Currently, Jon lives in New Mexico, a state where he previously ran the Democratic House Caucus along with the Democratic Party of New Mexico. Located in Albuquerque, Lipshutz manages Big I Strategies,  which is widely recognized as one of the premier campaign consulting, government affairs and strategic communications firms in the Western United States. There, he continues to work with allied organizations including the AFL-CIO, Conservation Voters and Trial Lawyers, among others.
